July 4th is one of my favorite holidays. If I were back in Texas I would be out getting fireworks to launch off at some friends property. It’s such a fun carefree day. Unlike other holidays there isn’t pressure to get everyone a gift or to make sure that you have the right traditions so no one is upset. At least for my family the 4th of July has always been just about family and friends hanging out and celebrating our country. That’s probably why it’s one of my favorite holidays. I love my family and friends, and I love my country!
As I’ve gotten a bit older the day has taken on more meaning. Like most things in life, you grow to appreciate them more as you get older and see from a bigger perspective. Because I have two brothers and over 20 friends who either are or have served in the armed forces, I can understand more what this day means. Like memorial day and veterans day, the 4th of July now is about more then just family and friends. To me it’s about remembering that all those years ago men fought and died to create this nation. More personally it’s about the men and women who are now serving to keep it safe.
I hope that we can all take a minute and remember that the 4th is bigger than a fireworks show. It’s about more than grilling with family and friends. We should all be grateful to the men and women who make those things possible.
